I want (need) to live near to University of Miami Medical school, advices please

Hi, I'm moving from South america with my husband to Miami. We will work for 9 months at University of Miami Medical School. It is possible to live near to this campus? We wanna walk to our work and feel safe. Please I need advice to figure it out how is the area surrounding this campus. Many thanks.
