We want to personally welcome you to Charleston. Some of you may not yet have even visited our fair city or South Carolina for that matter so this will indeed be an exciting journey.
Our climate is outstanding with the primary benefit being no snow. Well maybe every decade a few flakes will fall at which time school is dismissed so the children can see what the stuff looks like! Our Summers are hot (steamy) at times but bearable since we are surrounded by gorgeous beaches, rivers, and barrier islands. Needless to say having a boat or knowing someone who does is a major benefit. All the fresh seafood you can catch. Now that's a benefit of a coastal town! The shrimp are delicious and free if you learn how to harvest them and have a license.
Historic Charleston is a tourist town, port city and living history with its abundance of antebellum architecture and quaint cobblestone streets. Housing can be pricey in the historic district, especially South of Broad and the beach resort communities ( Kiawah and Seabrook Islands and the Wild Dunes Resort). However there are dozens upon dozens of residential communities nearby ranging from modest starter housing in the $100-$200,000 range to higher end communities on deep water that can easily run into the million dollar plus range with everything in between depending on your price range.
The current economy has not passed us by. We currently have our fair share of pre-forclosures, short sales, and distressed properties which makes this an opportune time to pick up a steal of a deal.
The truly phenomenal real estate offerings tend to be the bank owned properties. These are the properties which have already been through the foreclosure process and now are being offered directly by the bank. Anyone interested can easily obtain the current inventory of available foreclosed bank offerings.
Here's a picture of a fancy historic property on the South Battery (South of Broad) neighborhood. This one is offered at $10,300,00 (not for the faint of heart) wow
