Looking for a great family place to live in OR

I'm planning on relocating to Portland, OR for a job as a Firefighter and I am in search of a great place to raise a family within 1 hour away from the city. I have read a ton of blogs and respect the judgements of the locals of OR! My familly is multi-racial, with myself being a bit Spanish and my wife being white, one of my concerns is some of the ignorant comments I have read towards Mexican's inparticular, I'm not a Mexican but I am hispanic non the less and don't want to move to a place that is lacking in acceptance of all people and lacks the ability to know someone before placing judgement. I would appreciate any input on my concerns and on great places to raise a family. We are from the Denver Metro area and don't neccesarily want to live in a huge town but definetely not in a over populated city. Thanks from the Martinez family :ok:
