virginia beach area quiet place to live

My husband and I are probably moving to Virginia Beach area for a job. I was distressed, during a recent visit, with the constant ear-shattering noise of the jets at both our hotel on Atlantic Ave. on the northern shore and where my husband would be working, in area of Oceana Naval Air Station. We are 60 years old and don't need excitement or entertainment where we live. We need: to be within 35 minutes of the Oceana Naval Air Station; a moderately priced area where we can rent a home (townhouse, single, etc.) with a basement or garage for storage; a quiet and safe place; and a place that is near a hospital or doctors' offices. We are Caucasian and would like to live in an area where we would be welcome and not feel out-of-place. We were told by folks in Virginia Beach that there are "no fly" zones in the area that are quieter. Could someone help us with these issues? Thank you! PS

Hello LeftWingGirl, I live and work in Virginia Beach and Chesapeake, Virginia. (I'm a Realtor with the Real Estate Group.) There are areas in Virginia Beach that are no fly zones with a noise level less than 65. When searching for a home your real estate agent can eliminate homes in the fly zones with highter noise levels. I would also suggest looking into the Great Bridge and Hickory areas of Chesapeake, Virginia. They are within 35 miles of Oceana, and much quieter. Good luck and Welcome to Hampton Roads!
