Embroidery Machine Viking Designer 1 used for quilts

Can anyone recommend software to convert embroidery designs to SHV format, to use on 3.5x3.5" disks? I've downloaded several designs from the Internet (SHV format), unzipped them, put on the small disks, but THEY WON'T WORK. I found only one company that would convert for me and send me the disk, which worked fine.
Getting pretty discouraged! Ideas anyone?
