Personal Opinion on Election Candidates.

Posted 11-02-2008 at 11:14 PM by PreAristotle

FYI: This is all based on my opinion and the facts I support my beliefs with. I, in no way, expect anyone to agree with me. Please don’t slander my name or bash what I say just because you disagree. Instead, construct a solid debate.

Moving on:

I’ve ran into a lot of problems with this election already. First and foremost, the problems of race and sex; I hear too many people say that people like me don’t vote for Obama because we are racist. This is not the case at all and, in fact, is racist and unjust to say such a thing.

I also hear the same people bashing Palin for being a woman, claiming she is unfit to be Vice President. Saying she cannot handle being a VP, mother, and wife. Too many people compare Palin to Obama, which is rather sad if you ask me. More people need to focus on the issues and problems at hand and not the idea of having the first female VP or the first black President. It DOES NOT make someone a racist or sexist just because they don’t vote for one or the other. Nice try though, seriously.

Second, those who say they aren’t going to vote because they don’t “like” one or the other. Since when did voting become about who you “like” and not about who would be more beneficial to this country? I’m sorry, but I don’t LIKE the way Palin’s accent sounds and I don’t LIKE the fact that John McCain isn’t really graceful, but that doesn’t mean I am going to hold that against them.

I think that McCain and Palin will take action. The are people who gain favour through actions, not through hope, promises and words, words, words.

Obama is extremely good at rhetoric. Too good if you ask me. He sounds like he models his style off of Martin Luther King, Jr. He is good at getting the audience riled up when he gives a speech, but when it comes time for a debate he completely changes. He becomes the politician we all are so familiar with. He also is terrible at answering questions. He hesitates way too much, he beats around the bush, changes the subject, and often seems a little flustered as certain issues are raised.

Even his stance on issues has changed. Being someone who so highly praised the idea of hope in change, he proved himself to be no better than Kerry by going back on his word of putting new, fresh faces in the white house, instead of the people who’d been in there for years. Perhaps he just overlooked the fact that Biden has been a senator over half of Obama’s LIFE. “How is picking someone who has been on the Federal Payroll for 36 years a change?” (taken from here )

Also, why does Obama feel the need to hide things? Why does he hide those people he chooses or chose to surround himself with (this time added up to be an unacceptable number)? Why does he feel the need to hide the tape the LA Times discovered that he paid nearly half a million dollars to get them to keep it hush? Why does he feel the need to hide his medical records? He willingly points out the fact that McCain is old in age, but fails to tell the American people that his parents died young due to health issues.

It’s really bad if the American public is already uncovering many things he has failed to hide, just proving that eventually the true character of a fake individual will come out.

In regards to Taxes: It’s absurd, the idea of taxing the rich MORE. Do they not pay enough as is?

In 1999 the top 20% (earning 130K or above) paid for 79% of taxes, while the bottom 40% paid for ZERO. And the public calls the rich selfish for wanting tax breaks. Ignorance at its best. Those who sit here and say, “Well they should have to pay more than us, we shouldn’t have to pay the same in taxes…” seriously need to be slapped. They already do pay more, wake up people.

An enormous percentage of taxes are payed by a minority of Americans:
• The Top 1% of taxpayers pay 29% of all taxes.
• The Top 5% of taxpayers pay 50% of all taxes.
Granted, this was done in 1999… and ever since 1981 the percentage that the top 20% paid only increased as their income increased. I’d hate to think of what it is now.

So now you have the rich paying even MORE income taxes. What about the healthcare tax that will most likely be put in place? There’s one more thing. So how does this make any sense at all? The only outcome I see out of this is the business owners who are barely above the 250k margin will most likely cut back on employees, creating higher unemployment *mind you these are the business that gives the majority of Americans their jobs*.

With this issue we are just beating a dead horse. We’re taking all we can get from it and giving nothing in return, not even gratitude. Good job Americans (you ungrateful bastards). Also, you see the idea of no one really wanting to go for the high paying jobs, like being a doctor or perhaps a CEO of a company, if they are just going to get their money, that they went to school for 8-10 years for, taken from them once they establish themselves.

Take my step dad, for example: When he was born, his family was poor, a story heard all too often. He went to college and started his own business. The business became successful and created many well paying jobs for a lot of people. -Every.single.penny- he has right now HE EARNED. And someone is going to come in, dressed in green tights and playing the role of Robin Hood, and take his hard earned money and give it to people who, majority speaking, DON’T want to strive to work hard or get that better job.

I’ve met way too many people that would rather just sit around and leech off the government, claiming that the government doesn’t help the enough, the government doesn’t give them enough, the government favours the rich too much, yet the government interferes with their lives all too often. Wow, please stop and listen to yourselves just once. Hypocrisy at it's finest.

As for other issues that Obama has raised, oh waaait, I don’t know much about those issues because the majority of what I’ve caught out of his speeches are the unrealistic ideals of hope and change that seem to come from this sort of perfect world he seems to envision. Sure, hope and change sound f--king fantastic. We all want change. But I don’t think Obama will create change, just hope. He’s already proved this to be true by putting Biden, a senator of 36 years, on his ticket. He’s a man who goes back on his word all too much and this needs to be recognized. DON’T. FALL. FOR. IT.

My favourite argument that the Democrats throw at the Republicans is, “We don’t want another Bush in office.” I’m sorry, what’s that again? Not another Bush? Good think McCain is running then. Perhaps you didn’t catch this, since the majority of Democrats were too busy jumping from Ron Paul to Hillary, then to Obama’s band wagon, but Republicans considered McCain to be too different than Bush, and therefore too moderate, some even said he was too liberal.

McCain has a history of voting on issues that he deems is the correct side, whether it be the Dems or Reps side. He actually voted FOR two Democratic Justices to be entered into the Supreme Court, why? Because he said they were qualified in the job and he believed they would uphold the constitution. Obama, on the other hand, voted AGAINST putting Republicans in the Supreme Court, not because they weren’t qualified, but because they weren’t Democrats like himself.

As McCain said, “Senator Obama, I am not President Bush. If you wanted to run against President Bush, you should have done that four years ago.” That’s all that need be said about that from now on (and truly got him to shut up).

Covering very few issues, and even less ideals I will conclude my blog at that. This has been an overly dramatic election and rather stressful, if nothing else. I hope that people vote on ISSUES and not who they like or hate simply because of their party affiliation. If you’re going to take the time to vote, take the time to put some education into your vote. Take the time to actually LOOK at their issues and proposed plans, and not base what you get off of CNN or MSNBC.com.

"I had learned not to care. I blew a few smoke rings, remembering those years. Pot had helped, and booze; maybe a little blow when you could afford it. Not smack, though. ..." -- Barack Obama

"The point I was making was not that Grandmother harbors any racial animosity. She doesn't. But she is a typical white person..." -- Barack Obama

But what do I know? I'm from the Midwest, must make me bitter as cling to my guns and religion as a way to explain my frustration.

“It's not surprising, then, they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren't like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations.”
Barack Obama

    Umm....

The top 1% would pay 29% of taxes under just about any system, since they generally make about 29+% of the total income, and also own about 29+% of the total wealth.

At least that's how I remember the income figures from the IRS/Census bureau...

I do agree with you that the media have been awfully harsh on Gov. Palin compared to Sen. Obama

(Speaking as one of the top 5%, I am flattered that you worry about how much in taxes we are paying. But don't. If we can't figure out under any tax system how to keep most of our money, versus government employees, my feeling is that we don't deserve to keep it.)
