John Wayne made at least 7 movies in Durango.
The Sons of Katie Elder.(1965)
The War Wagon.(1967)
The Undefeated.(1969)
Chisum.(1970)
Big Jake.(1971)
The Train Robbers.(1973)
Cahill: U.S. Marshal.(1973)

But probably the best known film to be shot partly in Durango is Star Wars (1977) and Lord of the Rings

I don't know anyone who has been there. Probably because the city of Durango is not on the way to anything. You might drive through Torreon to get someplace, but City of Durango is pretty much for people who have family there. I get the feeling that most people who drive go from Laredo to Zacatecas as a convenient stopping spot on your way to Jalisco or Mexico City.

I love my state so much finally someone who knows some stuff! I did know about john Wayne movies but had no idea about Star Wars. Most people here in the US are familiar with culture from Jalisco, Mexico City and their surrounding areas. northern mexico usually gets ignored especially durango. Nevertheless it's a beautiful place with good food and nice people pay a visit some time!
