Possible relocation to DC

I may be relocating to Washington DC for a promotion. The job will be near Washington Hospital. I have a car. I have never been a metro person but I know I may have to become one. From what I understand, the position is demanding and due to unexpected events, my tour may be unpredictable so I prefer a 1 bedroom apartment close to the job so I'm not spending my waking hours getting to and from work and working. I would like rent to stay under $2,000.
