We had a backyard remodel done in November. Our house already had a covered patio that is pretty much shaded all day in the summer and has a ceiling fan. Plenty big for a dinning table and chairs to eat outside. One half of our yard is a pool which we use from April-September (6 months). We tore out the grass that comprised the other half of the yard and put in a paver patio to give us the option of having an un-covered patio to use in the winter months or sun bathing in the summer. We have a removable fire pit for the paver patio for night and just had an electrician install 5 bright LED spotlights to light up all areas of the yard for year round use. Pool during the heat of the summer is used when the sun goes down and feels awesome. I'll also use it late afternoons to cool off and make the house feel cooler when I go back inside. And yes, I sit outside at night when I get out of the pool when it's really hot. We also added 25-30 plants with a drip system for easy maintenance of vegetation. With all of this done I spend time outside just about everyday after work or on the weekends all year round. It's why I wanted to live in Phoenix in the first place!
