Here are some of my opinions, first some of the downsides:

1. It's hot most of the year, I mean unrelentingly oppressively hot. Get your car windows tinted. Eventually you may get used to it.
2. Traffic congestion is heavy. Try to live close to where you will work.
3. Food is a disappointment, it is often overpriced and under quality. Nothing like a Dave's Market here, the seafood is low quality and you will miss Federal Hill.
4. Restaurants: again, nothing like RI. There are a few popular places with good fare, just takes time to hunt them down. Chains rule, most independents don't survive and ALWAYS check the Dept of Health website for inspections, penalties and shut-downs on both chains and independents.

Now some of the good stuff:

1. You will actually be living where people merely visit for vacation.
2. Many beautiful places for day-tripping, in fact all of FL can be reached the same day by car.
3. Sunsets.
4. Busy social scene for your age group. There is a bit of a bohemian vibe, kind of like the east side in Providence.
5. You will get to enjoy 12 months out of the year.

So, go ahead and take the leap, just bring the sunscreen!!

This is totally correct! the traffic could be terrible and it just got worse the last few years in most of the Tampa region, The restaurants are not very good compared to the Northeast, Midwest or even most of the rest of the south. Some towns are full of overrated chains! Cuban Food is the biggest local culture food. Most people that move here didnt even grow up with that type of food! The Pizza especially doesn't compare to up north. Also watch for the tourist Traps, especially close to the beach, very overrated seafood and beach fare.
The heat did not bother me, but it does get really hot in the Tampa region and it rains a lot in the afternoons and if you live in a flood zone it floods alot!
