Push-ups and discipline

Why stop at 22 pushups? I usually don't do pushups, but when my gym closed last March, my workout became 3 sets of pushups and 3 sets of pull-ups. I normally do pullups at the gym. I started with sets of 30-35 pushups and got to 50-55 reps per set when my gym opened back up. I guess the pushups and pullups helped me from losing muscle during this layoff. My usual weightlifting such as bench press is much less reps. I'm typically doing 5-10 reps.
As previously stated I do extras here and there but it’s about the daily discipline and not so much about gaining strength. Unless it’s a regular routine and high volume push-ups aren’t a great way to increase strength. While I’d like to be stronger, I’m plenty strong physically and mentally. As the saying goes, “Direction is more important than speed.” My daily habits have me going in the right direction, and that’s my intent.
