I feel like comparing to a place you've lived befroe can be a useful way to understand the differences between cities. Thanks!

Hi there,

I was in your boat a year ago, not for work but because my wife wanted to be closer to her family. Really didn't want to locate because the job market in Dallas for me is awesome and I just really enjoyed living in DFW. What I am referring to is that Nashville feels like a much smaller city in comparison to Dallas. I was used to driving on the big interstates in Dallas and how highways are interested into the city structure. Dallas downtown was also not always the main focus for work and entertainment wise. I am not sure about your career but Nashville is very downtown centric similar to many Midwestern cities. Basically most corporate jobs and employment as well as fun tends to focus and cater to going downtown as opposed to Dallas where each city is big enough to have its own companies and jobs and entertainment without the need to ever go to downtown Dallas proper.

The network of highways and how good the roads and lighting is in Dallas is amazing. Nashville feels very dark and cramped in comparison. When I used to fly back to DFW airport after flying back from Nashville I used to joke that I joined civilization again. DFW is very well lit up in comparison to Nashville and feels very much alive to me outside of just the downtown, which is the opposite in Nashville.

Nashville has some positives like low property tax rate and affordability as well as the entertainment scene and and outdoors can be fun and relaxing as well as seeing greenery all around that is sorely missing in Dallas but I feel like Dallas just has a lot more going on for it and is ready for growth in a big scale while Nashville city planning is not catching up to the growth that is happening here.
