I’m disheartened to the fact that I need to write this paper. I was sincerely hoping that the blog I posted would warrant an array of responses, but unfortunately it did not. I think I may be somewhat of a tech-idiot, so that may have delayed the amount of time needed to elicit good feedback.
I posted my blog onto city-data.com with the hopes of starting a conversation about State College, PA. City-data.com is a website focused on regional information and facts concerning certain how-to’s on ways to adapt to certain communities. I figured it would be the perfect format to discuss how I am struggling to survive in the sprawling urban jungle such as State College (ha ha). Unfortunately I posted my blog incorrectly, so no one could read it. I had suggested to a few friends of mine that they should check it out and they reported back that they were unable to locate it. I believe, it is because of my lack of technological know-how that I didn’t receive the amount of comments I thought I would have.
To reiterate the statements made in my blog, State College barely recognizes the problems with the housing situation. Now if there were a housing crisis for students, then I really think that would be an enormous issue within the community. Not enough student housing? Wow, we need to keep building. Low-income residents don’t seem to register on any scale of concern. People cannot afford to live here? Oh well, move out and make room for those who can. It startles me to realize the fact that the town I grew up in doesn’t care for me, but for my money. If I cannot put up, then get out. Thanks. Way to look out for each other. I guess I was raised differently. We had neighborhood watches and my house was a “safe house” to which anyone can come to seek shelter from any means. Where did that compassion go? Are we so wrapped up in our own lives that we cannot give a second thought to the plights of others? That’s really sad, and I’m sorry to say that our society has come to this. Immediate gratification. If it is not self-serving at the time, then it is not worth the time. If just one person took the time to respond to one blog, or post to one website, it could possibly snowball to the effects of actually changing practices and ways people think and do. Awareness is the key factor in changing any role in society you wished to be changed.

You will get more responses if you post on the forums for PA. Try that. You will be happy with the results. Most people on this sight read the blogs but don't respond because they have learned the hard way that the people expressing their opinions in blogs are not interested in hearing any other points of view. I don't condone that, but that is the way it is.

Thanks for the feedback. I'm pretty new at this so I'm just throwing it all out there.

    Good ole Happy Valley

I came across this blog and could not help but respond. I actually attended Penn State in1996. It is a wonderful school but you are right when it comes to the local people. My senior year I seriously thought about staying in State College but when I started looking outside the university for housing and other stuff, I could not believe the pricing. I couldn't even afford to live there. With you being raised there though you would figure that you would know where to find find cheaper housing. Have you checked with the housing authority? I know every town has one.
