I have working in the residential leasing industry for over 11 years now in the Nashville and surrounding areas (from areas spanning from Mt. Juliet to Brentwood, then to Murfreesboro) I would like to share some helpful information that will hopefully reach some of you. Each rental management company has their own set policies regarding pets. Most landlords (especially with companies) will not accept any dog breeds that are considered "aggressive" (even if your dog is very well behaved and not aggressive at all). Many of them do not even accept any mix of these. This breed list commonly consists any dogs mixed with: Chow, German Shephard, Rottweiler, Staffordshire Terrier (pit bull), and Doberman. For those of you wondering the "why" in this and feel it is unfair, there are actually reasons for this. Most companies have attorneys that advise against approving these pets due to liability for the business. Management companies must lessen their risk since insurance companies may not cover having these breeds. Once a property management company sets a policy, they must be careful not to make "execeptions" for this or that reason since Fair Housing prevents that. Furthermore, many properties will not accept pets, period. Others may accept them with a weight limit. Usually, only a maximum of 2 pets will be allowed.
