Equal Opportunity Employment?? Yeah Right!

Posted 02-19-2014 at 10:57 AM by ColaClemsonFan11

Equal Opportunity Employment is something that I believe wholeheartedly in. No one should be hired for a position due to their gender or their race, but for their experience and abilities to preform the duties of the job.
While this original purpose for Equal Opportunity is something that I still believe in and support today, it appears that we are still not living up to this today, not because of African Americans and females are being discriminated against when applying for jobs, but because white males are.
As a white male and after being passed over for the third job by a lesser qualified candidate who was either black or female, I have clearly had enough, and its I am just one of many examples of this. After graduating college, it took me three months to find the entry level job I have now due to being passed over for the other jobs that I desperately wanted, my other white male friends had a much rougher and prolonged search of up to a year. My black friends and girl friends had jobs waiting on them as they walked across the stage. Now of course I am in no way saying that they didnt work hard to get that, they certainly did, just like I did and other white males did, but because companies now have to make sure that they have enough females and blacks in their company, well qualified and educated white males are being punished because of the color of their skin or the fact they have different anatomy.
While I completely understand that our country's rocky past have promoted these types of things, I as a white male born in 1988 have done nothing to deserve being oppressed like this and now, its getting me to think, why in the world have I been supporting things like EOE or Women's Rights when all it has done is keep me from achieving my dreams?
If I am not truly the best qualified candidate for a job and someone else is more qualified, I could care less what color they are or if they male or female, they deserve that position more than I do and I would be the first person to admit that, but taking a less qualified candidate just because of her anatomy or skin color is doing nothing but creating more racism and frustration.
As someone who has never had a racist or sexist bone in his body and has always seen someone for their character, I am beginning to have a harder time doing that when it isnt getting me anything but a "We regret to inform you" email from employers.
Now im sure I am going to have all kinds of people thinking I am a "racist" or "sexist" and if you do, by all means go ahead and think that...obviously me not being either of those two things havent gotten me too far so who cares now right?

Wait till you have to deal with being a white male in his 50's..think it's bad now? HA...youth is the oyster but you don't realize that you were a pearl until you've become a prune :-) Hang in there, work hard at getting a job and you will get one. I had the same thing happen to me but I'm a white female. I was more qualified, but they hired an African American female instead of me. She quit and then they hired me. It was a wonderful "job", in a horrible environment. I would have been better off with a different job in the first place. Things sometimes happen for a reason.

Thank you for the encouragement! I have been trying to hang in there the best I can and I know hopefully it wont be much longer until I am able to find something!
