How to get the benefits of skincare oils

Posted 11-13-2015 at 07:51 AM by DavidRaonic

Beauty oils are a growing trend. In a recent survey, more than half of Canadian women said they use or intend to use a beauty oil in the next 12 months. Of those already using oils, more than half report that they are using them both morning and night.

Why are oils becoming so popular? According to TV beauty expert Chantel Guertin, people are starting to realize their many benefits to help keep skin in top condition. “Whether it's a cult favourite like Bio-Oil or a new oil-based skincare range like Lipidol, oils are a great way to leave your skin nourished and glowing,” says Guertin. “I love them because they moisturize, protect and hydrate.”

Guertin says Bio-Oil is a staple in her beauty kit because it's a multitasking product that can be used for makeup removal, cuticle care, lip conditioning, and as an overall face and body moisturizer.

To combat the drying effects of winter weather and indoor heating systems, Guertin recommends switching to oil-based cleansers like those from Lipidol. “Typical foaming cleansers contain harsh agents that can strip skin of moisture, but Lipidol cleansing body and face oils hydrate while they cleanse,” she says. The new oil-based skincare line also includes leave-on products for the body and face to be applied after showering, after shaving and at bedtime.

“The body heals itself when we are sleeping, so this is a great time to try incorporating an oil into your skincare regime,” says Guertin. “The Lipidol overnight face oil feels luxurious and, when you wake up, your skin looks like you've had a facial.”
