I appreciate the individual soldiers who put their life on the line for the country, I truly do. I do not put them on some kind of a pedestal though. They are citizens, just like anyone else. There are many civilians who do a hell of a lot more for the country than any soldier ever did. There are many civilians who risk their lives every day for the greater good. What, is it because they are armed and are portrayed in movies they deserve some kind of hero worship? They deserve respect for doing their job, like many others.

To be honest, I am pretty much pro-soldier but anti-military. The military hasn't been used to protect our "freedom" since 1945. Since then it's just the muscle behind the bully policies of the US. Oil and political clout is what drives the military now and I think freedom is last on the list.

I have a 19 year old son. I would send him to Germany to live with relatives if they tried to draft him, unless our country was directly attacked by a country that truly wanted to destroy us and capture our land. I would not let him serve this system we have going now. Not a chance.
