Administrator:

We have a user named toosie who brought to my attention that when another user quoted her posts this evening her username came up as tootsie instead of toosie in the quoted post. Here's the thread: https://www.city-data.com/forum/other...l#post26570990 You'll see this odd phenomenon in post #s 11, 12 and 14. The change in spelling only occurs in quotes.

I don't know whether this is happening with any other users' names in the fora. Is it a temporary glitch in the system?

As you can see above, it's entirely possible to manipulate the OP's name in the quote so I'd suggest you ask the poster if he didn't do it on purpose.

Thanks Pam!

It's possible that the other poster changed it but we don't have a history of posting together and everything else about his posts seemed reasonable/transparent/sincere - so it seems like a really random quirk to just go around editing people's screen names when you quote them. Also, another poster in that thread pointed out that another user's name was altered during quoting. Granted, that user was quoted by the same person who quoted me - so maybe he's just a very mild prankster - he didn't really act like it when I brought it up in the thread but...?

Could it be an autocorrect program?

Hmmm...well, I did a little investigating and found at least one other quoted post from that same user and, sure enough, there was a change in the quotees screen name. This was from a few days ago. Since it doesn't seem to be happening when anyone else is quoting me, I guess maybe this particular user does get a kick out of those little text manipulations. Maybe he's testing to see who will notice! Thanks guys -

Haha - I'm embarrassed that I didn't think of that.

Oh well. It made a few people chuckle!

He said it was his spell check. Toosie isn't a word but Tootsie is a word. Spell check is probably responsible like he said.
