I've noticed for some reason in the elections forum once an older post, even from just a few months ago is brought back up and discussion continues, the thread is almost immediately locked by the mods.

This seems odd because at the bottom of all older threads have an image by the forum that states:

"Please update this thread with any new information or opinions. This open thread is still read by thousands of people, so we encourage all additional points of view."

You should DM the moderator there but I guess Elections is a bit different than other forums. The topic is volatile, as is all the politics plus, for a discussion to make sense, it needs to be kept up to date with news, etc. It might also have something to do with not keeping parallel threads discussing the same issue.
