This has only started happening since I updated to Firefox 2 a couple of weeks ago. At best, any given page on CD will just die, links unclickable, and I get the same effect on other websites I have open on other tabs - just not responsive. I can't quit FF, I have to Force Quit it, then restart.
At worst, FF just crashes and disappears entirely, sometimes while I'm typing a post.
While this may just be a FF issue, I wanted to let you know.
Hm... I have Firefox 2 as well and never experienced anything like this. Try scanning your computer for viruses and if that doesn't help, post about it in Technology forum. We have quite a lot of skillful members here, they may be able to tell what the problem is.

I have had this happen twice since I updated to FF2; and like you I have had to force quit and restart. I did a scan disk cleanup and defrag and restart and since then I have not had any problems. I do believe that any problem that I encountered was not at all associated with City-Data, but as a result of the update and my PC.
Like Markablue said, there might be more answers in Technology if this continues for you. I haven't had the issue happen again so I just let it go. Take care.
I've just taken a quick tour through City Data, including the data pages and many of the threads in the forum and everything seems to be OK using the updated Firefox. The only thing I had not done, until now, was try to post something. So obviously, if this works, I can tell you that from my computer (using Windows XP Home Edition), the updated Firefox seems to be working.
I even clicked on "Go Advanced" so I could add this ---> and did a little font changing just to check everything ... then previewed ... and the submitted the post.
I hope this help a little in the diagnosis the problem.

I also upgraded to Firefox2 and right after I automatically deleted cookies, temporary internet files, cleared out the history memory, ran both DiskClean and DiskDefrag then re booted, and I have not had any problems at all.. My two cents for what it's worth.
Firefox appears to need a great deal of RAM, and in updating a month ago, my computer did crash often. The new 2.0.0.11 appears to run smoothly but does have some glitches I've incurred even with a new computer. I use a Mac, and some of the suggestions are not ones I use but a reboot often helps.
Double check your capacity and see if it improves if you run just FF, with no programs in the background.
And I am not a tech person, but someone who had a similar problem with loading City-Data pages. My particular issue revolved around several required updates that my older computer because of insufficient memory (RAM, not ROM).
I too have been using FF 2.0.0.12 for weeks now and have no problems. I have to say that I don’t have other tabs opened while on City Data. I’m using XP for OS with FF on this pc and on the other I’ve got Vista but don’t have any troubles.
