More or Less whoever you put in your "will",

You as the parent choice (hopefully talking to them first) who YOUR child would go in the event of your death.

Could be a relative, a close friend.

It usually a good idea have a death trust set up to fund your child's live, administered by a 3rd party.

It does not matter if the child is a biological child or an adopted child, it is whoever the parents indicate in their will. If they do not have a will, it is whoever the court system decides.

Foster care then possibly put up for adoption which may or may not work out. A lot of kids age out in foster care

It doesn't matter if the child is adopted or not, if you have parental rights than he is your responsibility. You have to put it into your WILL who you will choose to care for the child and have guardianship over the child if something were to happen. Make sure you have a WILL and give custody to a trusted family member or else the court can decide and that's never good to get them involved. Put it in your WILL that your closest relative such as a sibling will have 100% custody of the child if something were to happen.
