Aren't people from the Horn of Africa genetically a mix of Arabs and sub-Saharan Africans? This is not a family tree thing BTW, but something going back tens of thousands of years.
Sorta true, but I'm personally certain that Nilo-Saharan ethnic groups probably still looked different from, say, West African Bantus before contact with Arabs. Africa is a big continent with huge indigenous genetic diversity. It actually dwarfs the genetic diversity of all non-African humans.

I don't dispute that Africa has the highest genetic diversity by far, or that Nilo Saharan ethnic groups are distinctive from the Bantu, however I think that the very distinctive appearance often found especially in Ethiopians and Eritreans also found in the Nubians of Sudan even more so then Somalians can be explained clearly by the DNA. I think that the maternal and paternal lineages found in the region indicate that there is a significant admixture with origins in Asia(Middle East) this is evidenced in part by the significant representation of Y-DNA Haplogroups J1 and J2 in the region. Haplogroup J1 in particular is represented in high frequencies in some ethnic groups for example among the Amhara of Ethiopia at 35% also currently the maternal lineages M1 and N found in the Horn of Africa which account for nearly 50% of the lineages of Ethiopia are in dispute as likely originating from ancient back migration from Asia(Middle East) this would have occurred before Arabs were an ethnic group.

I've read somewhere that around 30% of their genes have shared features with Europeans.
Somewhere around here, there is a thread where someone said that the people in that region are considered "Caucasoid". I can't remember who said that or the thread it was in but if I find it, I will post it. What do those of you who may actually know anything about this think of that?
