Am a PanAfrican at heart! So I like to say that I am East African as we all need to just represent the continent. But I am Ethiopian.
Ghana/West Africa is VERY different than East Africa. Ghana is more friendlier to people that have grown up in the West and or Caribbean. Ghana has the beaches and Ethiopia has lakes. Ghana is further ahead of development at this point but Ethiopia in the next 2-5 years will catch up. Ethiopia has a preserved history and culture/old world historical sites - Ghana also has a celebrated history that is more modernly blended.
Then costs are also VERY different as are the customs and food. In Accra and in Addis the prices are skyrocketing - outside the capitals are less desirable areas but are also growing FAST.
So it all depends on what you connect with personally. Hopefully, you will be able to visit both countries soon. I wouldn't recommend Addis right now because some of the major projects are in the process of being developed so it looks a bit crazy right now. Please link up with expat groups and or a guide before you go so you can maximize your experience.
