Hello, just wondering if people do this much? I am not from the area) and what about if one spouse worked in Cleveland and the other worked in Akron--what is a good "in between" that is not a crazy commute? Thanks!

There is a whole host of suburbs in there. To some degree it will depend on what part(s) of town(s) the jobs are. I.E. It would be better to be near I-77 for downtown Cleveland vs Route 8/271 for the east side. Rt 8 and 77 converge in Akron so its not as much of a problem that way.

You could park yourself in Richfield and be right off I-77. A little woodsy for my taste but that would be about smack in the middle.

I used to work in lower Akron (about 32 miles) while I lived in the Independence area. It was about a 35 minute commute. My current commute to the eastern suburbs (about 15 miles) averages about 25 minutes (traffic delays are included). I consider neither to be that big of a deal.

Keep in mind that rush hour traffic into Cleveland is far more congested than it is into Akron. Traffic can be slowed as far south as Route 82 (on I-77N) in the morning when heading into Cleveland. Traffic into Akron on I-77S is barely ever congested. You'll rarely drop below 55 MPH.

If you choose Richfield, the person driving to Cleveland will be the one with the longer commute during rush hour. On some days, it will be double the time of getting into Akron.

Also--does anyone know if Hudson gets a ton of snow? BTW I am originally from Buffalo...

It can. Hudson lies on the fringe of the secondary snow belt. So, there's always the possibility. However, Hudson's snow prowess will not impress you much if you are from Buffalo.

Depends. Cleveland is a really big city, and goes from East to West. I was in Cleveland during rush hour recently and it was far worse than anything I ever saw in Akron. Getting out of Akron is probably the easiest part; the fun would begin once you hit the Cleveland exurbs. An hour wouldn't surprise me at all, unsure if it would be any more than that.

Also keep in mind that a typical commute from Akron to Cleveland is 45 minutes as it is without traffic. So you're probably looking at 1 and 15 minutes or 90 minutes, maybe more. Again all depending on which suburbs in Cleveland you are referring to.

Thanks for your responses. We are looking at Solon (so far) and my husband will work in Akron and I will work in healthcare (anywhere). We really don't want my husband to have an awful commute. IF anyone can comment on what a commute from Solon to Akron will be like I really appreciate it.

40 minutes on Route 8. I like that road there are other ways into Cleveland but that was the first and more memorable route for me. Just keep in mind, whichever route you take, your real congestion is going to be in Cleveland. Getting out of Akron is always the easy part.

Thanks! 40 minutes from Solon to Akron that sounds like a do-able commute. :-)
