I am moving with family and high school going kids from Livonia to Akron shortly?

We are looking for family friendly communities within 15 mile radius of Akron which has good high-schools.

We plan to buy a home within a year.

Any advise for us?

We lived in Wadsworth, OH for a few years which is about 10 miles from Akron and it's a lovely town. Very low crime, close to malls but not to close and decent priced housing. It's west of Akron.

I would say Cuyahoga Falls or Stow (both north of Akron) or Fairlawn to the west of Akron.
I currently live right near downtown Akron...I used to live in Fairlawn and altho I didn't like it (Im not a fan of suburbia), its a nice place. It is a shopping mecca complete with everything from Target, Old Navy, Summit Mall (which they are in the process of revamping-close to being done) to several grocery stores and restaurants. Quick access to I-77N&S.
Cuyahoga Falls is really nice - if I were to stay in Ohio and move from Akron, it is the only other city I would live in around this area (just due to my taste)....Stow is also very nice. Relatively quick access to Route 8, N & S.

Need any more specifics? Just let me know. I have lived in the NE Ohio area for 27 years and in the Akron area specifically for the past 9 years.

Hi, my husband and moved to ohio from washington, dc almost 3 years ago. My husband's originally from the akron area. I'm from maryland. We highly recommend the areas we've lived in, especially for families. Copley and fairlawn - the schools are supposed to be great (our 2 children are not school aged so we dont know personally). Also, if you dont mind moving a little further out, Macedonia is an excellent area. If you want more info/feedback about the area, please feel free to contact me. Also we have a condo in Copley and a house in Macedonia that we are open to selling if you are interested. All the best with your search and relocation.

My wife and I lived in the Akron area for 12 years. We lived in Northwest Akron very near the Fairlawn city limits. I worked in Fairlawn, and my wife worked in Wyoga Lake (Stow-Kent-Hudson-Cuyahoga Falls area.) As far as we are concerned the Fairlawn, Copley, Medina, Bath area are superior to the Stow-Kent-Hudson Cuyahoga Falls area. We found the people to be great in the Fairlawn area, the housing to be excellent, and lots of shopping and other things to do. Good luck in your search.

Can you please comment on Hudson as a possible selection? I have researched on Hudson and found very good reviews except some comments on "Not so open or welcoming diversity"

How far is it true?

I understand that housing in Hudson is expensive compared to neighboring places but schools have better ratings.

Not sure if you are still looking into this area, but as far as Hudson goes..lol..well, let's just say the people who live there tend to be hoity-toity.
I would say it's a predominantly white area and the housing is WAY too expensive. They have newer condominiums for sale near the newer shops in the center of Hudson (Shop ~ First & Main Hudson ~ Shop, Dine & Live in Hudson, Ohio (http://www.firstandmainhudson.com/Shop/storedirectory.aspx - broken link)) but last time I checked they were going for $500K+ and that is pretty typical for the area.
As far as the schools go, I'm not sure on the ratings.
Diversity - there isn't any in Hudson.
