Hi all! I'm not originally from the area but have lived in Cuyahoga Falls with my SO for the past few years. I'm recently single though and am looking for a smaller place for a single guy without a need for a tons of space. I've been looking at the Highland Square area as a possible place in Akron that would have things for a single guy to do within walking distance (the less I'd have to use my car, the better). I'm having trouble finding studios or one-bedroom places that don't seem sketchy though. Any recommendations on finding a place there?

Also, are there any other neighborhoods in Akron that I should look at that would have things to do within walking distance?

And, finally, any recommendations for ways to meet new people as I don't have many similarly-aged people at work and am looking to branch out in the area?

Phew. That's it. Thanks!

My sister rented in Highland Square for a while. I was envious of her cool apartment and cool neighborhood. She lived on a somewhat sketchy street named Rhodes. Even so, she never personally encountered any problems. It's a fun area. Some rowdiness comes along with the fun, but that's the trade off.

Highland Square and Downtown are probably your best bet. There's also University Park, but I assume if you're from the area you're already familiar with the pros and cons of that neighborhood.

Below I'm going to post the short list of larger buildings that I posted for the guy in the Richfield thread.

The best I could say if you're looking at smaller buildings in Highland Square is address is key. Boundaries I would say are safe bets:
-Anything north of Market and west of about Rhodes and Charlotte.
-Most north of Exchange, and West of Portage Path
-Most north of Crosby, East of Portage Path over to Beck.

Generally the further north and west you go the better the area in Highland Square.

There are many ads that say "near Highland Square" which is technically correct but are in the area better known as West Hill. It is a mixed bag, you'll have beautifully rehabbed houses next to absentee landlord owned dumps. In my opinion if you are only looking for small apartments I would not look in that area. (East of Beck to Downtown) There are some good landlords in there but by and large I think the majority of rentals in that area are not somewhere your average person is going to find appealing, and I would not want to be walking back from a bar late at night there.

Downtown
King Apartments - Canal Square, Downtown. Know people that have lived here, got good reports. Some of the apartments are like a condo layout, 2 floor. Overlooks the stadium.
http://www.northsidelofts.com/storyi...%20pricing.JPG - Northside Lofts. Pricier, but they are nice.
The 401 Lofts Apartments - 401 Lofts is new and does single tenant on Studios. Gym, pool, etc is included. My concern there is that the larger apartments they do multi-tenant for students and I'm not sure if there is any sort of division.

Highland Square
Executive Properties, Inc. | Akron, Cuyahoga Falls, Tallmadge, West Akron, Highland Square | Featured Properties - Highland Square Apts and Highland Tower should be fine, although I've been in one and I think they were a little dated on decor.
Tower Eighty Luxury Apartments Akron Ohio Tower 80 I think the Mayor did or does live there. Seems to be a good spot.
Twin Oaks Manor Apartments Apartments For Rent in Akron, Ohio - Apartment Rental and Community Details - ForRent.com Twin Oaks. Best 4th of July Fireworks spot in the neighborhood, hands down.

Good luck on your hunt.
