I would say drive down Gov't street too in Mobile. There are some beautiful old homes there and the oak trees make a canopy over the street. If you don't like old homes then I would just go to Gulf Shores and check out the beach and the food.

Maybe you should tell us the places you've definitely decided to hit and timing so we can think of a good route and places more convenient to that trip. If you're hitting both Chattanooga and Bham then Little River Canyon is pretty much on the way. I also agree that Cheaha is nice and is on the way between Atlanta and Birmingham. I don't know about fishing much, but those are two hiking areas I like a lot. I also like Sipsey Wilderness for backpacking. That's a part of the Bankhead Forest to the NW of Bham, so likely not as much on your way anywhere. You should be able to find all those places on Google Maps.

If you like fishing, try going to the Pensacola Bay pier. Lots of people go late at night and fish until sunrise.

Craig: My intended route was TN (memphis, nashville, GSM, Chattanooga) > to > Atlanta. In what order would I see the LRC?

You had also mentioned Bham and other places in Alabama and the gulf coast as well, though. Where's that in the mix?

Alabama is right after GA

Going from GA > Alabama (bham, mongmery, delta, etc...)

If you're going to Atlanta, then stopping by Cheaha on the way to Bham would make more sense. If you're going from NW GA, then Little River Canyon might make more sense.

If you want a pretty drive from Chattanooga down to Little River Canyon, Take Rt 58 (Ochs HWY) south to Rt 189/157 Scenic HWY. Hang a right on Rt 117 until you get to Mentone.
While in Mentone stop for a bite to eat at the Moonlite Bistro or the Wildflower Cafe.
Head south on 89 towards DeSoto St Park.
89 will cross HWY 35 which going East (left) will take you to Little River Canyon.
If you want a pretty twisty road that goes along the Canyon....right at the county line is Rt 176 which is Canyon River Rd.

I decided I'm going to Cheaha instead. But thank you for the suggested route. I will keep it in mind for next time.
