Well, from what I have gathered this loop is being constructed, because of the increase automotive industry in the area(Hyundai, KIA and also Auburn is seeing a rise in industry http://blog.al.com/wire/2013/05/aubu..._river_default). The automotive manufacturing companies supplies come in at the Port of Mobile and there is no reason to go I-65 through Montgomery traffic then I-85 to reach their destination in the east, so this loop is being constructed.

Here is a quote:
“This will alleviate traffic congestion on I-65 and I-85 through Montgomery, making the daily commute easier for tens of thousands while at the same time reducing the amount of truck traffic through downtown and making our area more attractive to potential employers,” Montgomery County Commission Chairman Elton N. Dean said in a statement.

Also with Airbus coming to Mobile and Auburn uptick in Aerospace professionals this project is right on time.

It's like they've found a way to be cheap and not build a real bypass and have decided to repurpose some existing road and build as little as possible and will have to change a bunch of signs and be confusing before its over - and in the meantime have just built a little Stonehenge looking thing and a few orphaned onramps to no where with no real purpose or momentum.

Maybe it'll be done in 30 years.

Ah, good so there IS real progress. But I still believe the end result is some sort of compromised design that isn't a traditional circle bypass like most people would expect.

Too bad the future routing of I-85 doesn't begin at the US 80/I-65 interchange. That facility looks as if it were designed for a future limited access highway connection.

Easier to avoid Montgomery when it's done. Worth every penny.

Wonder where the data is regarding land purchases for right of way? Interested to know how much was spent and who the land was bought from. Looks like some folks got rich off of some, what was useless property. Imagine that the last piece bought was the most expensive to acquire...isn't that how it typically goes or is it the land owner that made the most money the one that lobbied for the project to begin with?

At least until growth in East Montgomery and Pike Road catches up with it like what happened to the original bypass. At least this time it'll be limited access.
