According to United Van Lines, Alabama is #6 in terms of Inbound vs Outbound Migration with 62.1% of people moving into the state vs 37.9% moving out of the state. Which makes sense, given the fresh 2021 estimates, Alabama lost twice as many residents through deaths than it gained through births (first time in the states history). But the state still maintained a growth rate 3 times the national growth rate because of only inbound migration. Not sure what is specifically driving growth in the state, my guess is retirement, jobs, retirement and COL

Click on the state on the map and it details the reasons for moving in/out. Retirements seemed to be the largest reason for gain.

Looks like the numbers are only for those who used United.

Interesting enough, U-haul has an opposite view of Alabama, U-haul ranks Alabama #46 in terms of Inbound vs Outbound migrations. I am highly skeptical of their analysis for quite a few reasons
1) They don't actually post any data, they just laid out their analysis
2) Their only data set that is used is specifically one-way trucks
3) U-haul trucks are used in a pretty wide range of ways, not every truck used by u-haul is for specifically moving
4) Data would indicate a losing population having one of the highest outbound migrations, obviously that's not the case

But going back to United, they only use data based on actual home moves, they also have actual data and numbers, they even have the numbers for specific MSAs and Alabama has 3 in their top 25 Spots
#11 Dothan (70% inbound vs 30% outbound)
#14 Huntsville (68% inbound vs 32% outbound)
#22 Mobile (64% inbound vs 32% outbound)

of course, not concrete evidence on the going ons in the country, but its something

Yep - we moved from Atlanta to Baldwin County for that reason. Oh, by the way, Go Dawgs! :-)
