Hi all,

I'm thinking about attending Faulkner University near (in?) Montgomery, AL, and will need to find a good place to live while I am there. Looking for a place with great maintenance (ie. not having to send 50 messages to get something fixed or replaced), quiet, safe, clean, and preferably close to the university. I will most likely have a car, so I think maybe up to a 20 minute commute is pretty reasonable.
I'm from NY, and from what I've seen while doing some preliminary research, the rent is much lower than what I've come to expect. From the numbers I've come across, I guess around $700 a month would be about where I'd stop? I've been looking at one bedroom apartments (Legends at Taylor Lakes caught my eye), and a lot of them have very mixed reviews.

Suggestions for apartment complexes or links would be very much appreciated.

Thanks!

I just tried to post a nice, long reply and lost it all. If it suddenly shows up, sorry for the replication.

If you are going to be a traditional undergraduate (full-time, under 21, and unmarried), you will be required to live on campus at Faulkner.

If you don't fit into the traditional undergrad category, you will have to have a car. Public transportation is not very good here, and there aren't any apartments within walking/biking distance of campus.

The Taylor Road area is probably a good place to look. Look at a map, and as a general rule, you don't want to rent anything in the downtown direction of campus. (Taylor Rd is on the side of campus away from downtown.) There are a couple of nice neighborhoods immediately around the school (although no apartments), but it only take a few minutes to approach unpleasant territory if you are moving in the direction of downtown.

I hope that helps a little. Good luck!
