We are going to be staying overnight in Montgomery within the next week and I noticed there seems to be two significant hotel/motel areas. There is a cluster of motels on the east side at the highways 85 and 231 intersection and another cluster just north of Highways 85 and 65. Is anyone area more safer than the other? Also can anyone recommend a restaurant near the area they like best? Thank you.

Montgomery has a new Hampton Inn downtown (just off I65), close to (safe walking) Wintzell's Oyster House, Dreamland BBQ, Montgomery Brewpub, and SaZa (run by Chef Joe DiMaggio - cousin to the great ball player). BTW Tuesday nights are open mike at the Montgomery Brewpub - good chance of seeing a State legislator perform...

We are driving in tandem with another couple and we are leaving the CAN/USA border early Saturday morning. I'll run the tips you gave us by them and we'll see how we are able to maintain a schedule so we arrive at the Gulf of Mexico by noon Feb. 1st. Thank you very much for the tip and comments.

Have a safe and pleasant trip.

Montgomery is just a few hours from the Gulf (3 or 4 hours depending on where you're headed, traffic, &c).

We made it to Montgomery in the afternoon and we stayed in the Laquinta near exit 6 off hwy 85. We will have an easy 3 hour drive to Perdido Key this morning. We think your weather is just fine. We put our car snow brush, heavy jackets and winter boots in the trunk and we won't need them until we go back first week of March.

Eh, glad someone thinks so. It's been too cloudy and rainy this winter for my taste.
