The trailer park industry is booming in the Crapstone, but if you want to build houses WITHOUT wheels and underpining, Auburn is a great market.

Default Cali to the South

I've never posted here before, but had to when I saw your post I was born and raised in the San Fran Bay Area and transferred to Auburn when I was twenty from St. Mary's in Moraga. Here are the pros: wonderful, wonderful, wonderful pace of living. No traffic (except for around the university in mid-day, grrr), no long commutes, no super sprawl. People don't have the same hurried pace like they do in Cali. I know that sounds cliche, but it's true! I also enjoyed the culture shock. I am now obsessed with college football, and, as you can see from previous posts, everyone in the South, but particularly in Alabama, is also obsessed with football. Too bad Saban licks donkey butt. I'm just saying The difference in cost of living is ASTOUNDING. I'm talking $750 a month gets you a house. I was paying $750 for a studio apartment in a sketchy part of Concord, CA that was sort of nice. My friend just bought a 5,000 square foot land with 10 acres outside of Auburn for $130,000. Yes, that information is correct. I also did enjoy the people. I've met some awesome people and made some awesome friends. Not that they aren't there in California, but I think Southerners are pleasant

Now, that being said, be forewarned. Cultures are very different. Very, very different. The South has progressed significantly and Auburn is particularly progressive for the South, but let's just say Auburnites vote differently than your average Bay Area resident. You're also going to have to give up the ethnic food super bummer, 'cause food in Cali ROCKS. The BBQ is pretty darn good, though, and there's a Shakey's in Auburn, which is based in Martinez and tastes an awful lot like Round Table, if you ask me. And an awesome Creole place. But, no authentic Japanese, Thai, etc... it's a shame.

As a former California girl who now resides in Florida (I had to leave because of a job), I can honestly say that I miss Auburn big time. It's a nice small town that has pretty much whatever you need. It's close to bigger cities, and one huge city with anything you would ever want/need (ATL). The school is fantastic. I get all warm and fuzzy inside when someone shouts "war eagle" at me! I miss my friends and all my old hangouts like Taylor's Bakery. If you're willing to take a risk and move somewhere a little bit different than what you're used to, I think you'll like it. Good luck!
