It depends on where you're at in Alabama. Any particular city in mind?

It really depends on where you are in the state. A great number of public schools, particularly in the Birmingham and Huntsville suburbs, are among the best in the country. In fact two different Birmingham high schools have recently been named the country's best high school by USN&WR in successive years.

On the other hand, rural areas haven't caught up yet. So you really need to provide us with thoughts on where you want to live.

Here in the mountains of NE Alabama we have it pretty good. Lived here since 1975, travelled all over the world, but still think this bit of earth is mighty nice.

Don't sell the small, rural schools short. Many of them have very good statistics such as student to teacher ratios, excellent test scores, high numbers of scholarship recipients. DeKalb County's schools are fairly consistent in all these areas. Fort Payne City Schools are very good, too. It isn't necessarily the big money, big city schools who can do the job teaching children excellently!

Hmm, the only appealing thing I can think of about Alabama is...location? I just go to college here.
