Earlier this year news articles said the ferry would be open to the public starting in Fall 2010.

Anyone plan on using it?

Probably free for city employees. Just like the muni bus service, riding around for free on the taxpayer dime.

Driving is quicker. It's a long haul out there just to board a ferry.

Very few people will use it at first because it is just too far. When the prison is built, some people may use it to commute. I anticipate that some people may park their boats and snomachines on this side and use the ferry to commute for recreation.

Until PM develops, there just isn't much there and it's too far away from the population. But, people who own land on PM and live in Anchorage may begin using it more and perhaps even commuting with it.

It's not operating yet. Here is some info on a test run Susitna ferry performs beautifully in Clarence Strait (http://www.matsugov.us/publicaffairs/index.php/ferry/869-susitna-ferry-performs-beautifully-in-clarence-strait - broken link)

I don't think there is any place to dock it in Anchorage yet.

It will probably be used a lot by Tyonek residents due to the fact that they only have a winter ice road. As for Anchorage to Wasilla, I strongly doubt it will be used heavily - people are used to driving. It will probably not be economical to use for a back and forth, daily commute - it will be interesting to see how long it takes just to board, and then to ride it. It takes, to board a ferry from Cordova to Whittier, about an hour, you can be to Anchorage from Wasilla in what, an hour and a half?

I would be interested in taking a Ferry from Anchorage to Hope or somewhere to gain access to the Kenai without the long drive around Turnagin Arm
