Hi all,

I'm a web developer/programmer currently living in Chicago. I am sick of where I'm living and I'd like to move to Alaska (or Montana). I've been doing research on jobs (in both Alaska and Montana) and I've found that there really aren't any, especially for those not already a resident of said states. We'll forget the fact that there's hardly any web developer/programmer jobs at all.

I am 100% willing to take ANY job that pays enough to live on. What types of jobs are available in Alaska that I can "break" into?

Thanks,

Jim

Thanks for the reply, but as I stated I'm looking for something that pays well enough to live on.

Have you heard of elance? Those web developers work anywhere in the world.

If you are real good with networks etc you might get a job with a big corp or the gov. If you are a web developer why can't you worl remotely.

Thanks all for the replies.

The jobs I've come across that allow a person to work remotely still want you to be within 1-2 hours travel distance in case they need you to come into the office for emergencies, face-to-face client meetings, etc. I haven't found one that allows a person to be in another state, although I know those jobs are out there somewhere...

Thanks again, all.

with your skills, why not work from home?
there are few good paying jobs in Alaska and having tried to move and live in Montana over the past few years, I can say the jobs there pay 1/2 what they do here. So, your best bet for making a living wage is to work from home using the skills you already have.
