Awesome! Did you continue on to McCarthy, or did you stop there at Chitina? Hotel Chitina looks like it could very easily be haunted.

We did continue to McCarthy. There's a lot of history in those old buildings.

Chil..........What a great old town... I love exploring them and then find a local bar and chat with the old timers......

Wow... just had thunder hit right outside my window... Oct. 23 and a thunder storm??? ... crazy WI weather.....GEEZ scared the daylights out of me.........

^ ::sigh:: We haven't had a thunderstorm here in a good 6 months probably. Maybe longer. Friggin mountains block all the weather. Can't live with em, can't live without em.

That's actually a really nice place. Lots of beautiful old wood in the restaurant, and pictures of old Chitina on the walls. I'll try to remember to take some pictures inside next summer when they're open again. The woman who runs it lives down here the rest of the year and runs the greenhouse in town.



Here are some of Snowtown:

Looking east toward Hogback Mountain and the rest of the world. That's the elementary school in the foreground.


Mineral Creek and West Peak (aka Town Mountain)


Bustling Downtown Valdez there in the foreground. There are like three whole cars!


That's the high school back there. I can see my house from here!
