I think he wants to go on a cruise to the Inside Passage.

You might have better luck with this in the Travel Forum; the posters in this one tend not to be cruisers.

Princess and Norwegian cruise lines are probably the best ones.

People here may tell you to take the Alaska Marine Highway instead but that's not exactly a one size fits all answer. Personally I'm not crazy about the ferry when school is out because I loathe screaming crying children and it's full of them at that time. Also, the accommodations are not comfortable and the food blows.

Fly to Anchorage and rent a car or an RV. Not much wildlife to be seen from a boat.

Try this site. It's specific to cruising in Alaska. Like Met said there are few cruisers on this board although you will get some variety that you will not get on the site I suggested.

I've done an Alaskan cruise back in 2008. We went from Vancouver BC to Whittier with stops in Ketchikan, Juneau, Sitka & Skagway. If I had to do it over again I'd take the ferry. If the ferry doesn't appeal to you try one of the smaller lines with smaller ships like Silversea or Alaska's Inside Passage - American Safari Cruises - Yacht Cruise and Yacht Charters to Alaska They used to be Cruise West. Five days isn't even enough time to scrape the surface. I'd plan on spending at least 2 weeks coming up. The inland passage is beautiful...

Small ship cruising in Alaska takes cruising to another level. It's a spectacular experience with overnights in small coves, glacier trekking and daily wildlife observations.

Alaskan Dream Cruises are the ones who have taken over some of the Cruise West stuff.

There is a better way than a cruise, google "Rainbow Mountain Adventures" and ask them what they can do for you in the time span you have allowed for this trip. You will have a better time and perhaps come out cheaper since your trip isn't paying the salaries for 300 crew members.

You can go on a great cruise, usually a 7-day cruise leaving from Vancouver or Seattle. I've been on two Alaskan cruises so far plus 8+ cruises in other parts of the world and loved them all. However, I hate Norwegian's "freestyle cruising" because you get nickle and dimed and it's not freestyle because you have to make reservations ahead of time or else you will end up waiting 30 mins+ for a table. One of the best things about cruising is the food and developing a friendship with your table and server. I'd recommend Celebrity, Princess, Royal Caribbean, or Carnival. There are some really great deals, priceline.com is easy to navigate. Stay away from local companies, they rip you off and are double, triple, quadruple the price. Enjoy!
