Hi Everyone,
I'll be traveling on a cruise to Alaska in late August. Well be passing through Juneau, Kethchian, Hubbard Glacier, ans Victoria BC.

I looked at some of the weather links that were posted in other threads, but they seemed like they were more current stuff than averages. I'm wondering what sort of clothing I should pack? I'm from Las Vegas, so zero experience with Alaska.

If you have any ideas about cool things to see, that would be great too.

Any input would be appreciated.

Thanks!

A little bit of EVERYTHING. Shorts & tee shirts to long underwear and rain gear.

There's no telling what you'll run into in the course of one day.

It could be 70, it could be 50. I'd plan on cloudy, light rain. You can always shed stuff if the weather turns favorable. August starts the turn toward rainier fall like weather.

A lightweight raincoat is always in season in SE Alaska. As mentioned, bring a sweatshirt and/or sweater that you can layer with lighter clothes.

You might also want to do some research on the Cruise Critic forum for Alaska. It's specifically designed for answer cruise questions, with the commenters being regular Alaskan cruisers. This forum is more design for people moving to Alaska.

Take a small bottle of bug repellant in case you do tours off the ship, Knats, Mosquitos and stuff can be a "Pain"!

Otherwise a good camera is worth the trip!

Default I can relate

I'll be going onto a cruise in early September this year. But our ship is going to Vancouver, and then we head back to seattle and fly home from there. I heard there is a lot more space when you get on cruises that late into the year, and I don't know about discounts, but I do get a discount with Princess. It really depends if its you or other people coming with you that judges your budget on cruising.

I can't wait to go on mine to be honest!

I used to work in one of the shops in Skagway, Ak where the cruise ships would stop. The number one thing we made lots of $ on was selling these cheap Alaskan jackets b/c no one thought it would be cold enough in August to need a jacket. If I were you I would take a good warm pair of pants, some shoes or boots that you can wear in the rain (think 40 or 50 degrees and light drizzle), a jacket, a sweater, and a good hat. I know it sounds insane for the month of August b/c like you I live in Las Vegas. However I worked up in AK for three summers and I remember my boss telling me she made such a killing off those cheap jackets b/c no one from the lower 48 expected it to be so chilly during August.
