Lets walk around Barrow & see some of the sights. We walk everywhere in this village. It only takes a few minutes to go anyplace. The exception being if you want to head out to the college / narl area.

Barrow is the smallest - Browerville is much more spread out and larger.

Here is a recent accident (a couple of years ago). The driver on the right side just shot out of his driveway without even looking and smashed right into this truck which was moved about three feet to the left.

Stauqpaq (AC store) is located in the background. A very clean large supermarket with fresh meat.

A small portion of the inside of Stauqpaq (store) in Inupiaq.

Behold: THE KING OF HEARTS - (that was our nickname for) James Silek This was the kind person (72) that took us in when we first arrived in Barrow. We stayed with Jimmie for two months.

Jimmy used to work as a lineman with his brother in his younger days for the North Slope Borough. A devout alcoholic since age 14 and he is damn proud of it. Married 5 times - 3 of his wives died from alcohol!!

Even though this is summer time, you still people dressed in many different ways. You will always see some people wearing parky's even though it is summer time and quite warm. You must be prepared .. for that wind.

The second most photographed place in Barrow - right across the street from Arctic Pizza!

A small whale bottom feeding in our area along the north beach.

The Area of the North Slope Borough and surrounding villages

During the summertime you see 'meat' curing or drying outside homes all over this village.

See, this is what I'm talking about! I love seeing these villages - especially Arctic villages - up close and personal like this. Like photos inside stores and just random streets and businesses and, perhaps most importantly, people. For those of us who can't afford a plane ticket to Barrow whenever we please, this is the second best thing, for sure!

In most of the villages - especially Barrow - People do not throw things away; they say they need this stuff for parts. (chuckle). Can't find what you need ?? Look in this pile !!

You can get a great deal on a used snowmachine at this house.!! Want an umiaq ?? Well they have one of those also !!
