Anyone from the kenai peninsula willing to share their views on crime, or the lack of it? Is the Kenai peninsula a good place to raise children? I am possibly transferring to alaska, and after searching for a while I chose the kenai peninsula as the place to raise my family. Home prices seem reasonable and every picture I've seen of the peninsula looks really great. In your opinion, how is the school system there, soldotna in particular?

I went to school in Sterling, Soldotna and Kenai, my two sons did the same. Although it's been awhile I'd say the schools are OK.
We do have the occasional DUI's, as well as domestic calls, rarely an armed robbery, an occasional drug bust, and I can count the murders on one hand for the last 30 years.
You could check the Trooper's Public Announcement site to get an idea of crime stats throughout the state. We really don't have any local on-line police blotters tho. Overall I'd raise my kids on the peninsula all over again with no fear whatso ever. It's a great place to get them outdoors, there are school sports, summer sports, jobs etc, for kids.

Default Barrow of all places

My first hand experience seeing someone on meth was 3 years ago in Barrow of all places. After spending two nights (great adventure) in Barrow, we were at the airport to shove off to ANC. At the Barrow airport, I thought this woman was drunk, but Barrow is a dry town. She was laughing out loud on the flight and I find out she was traveling with her daughter and granddaughter. At about 30 min into the flight I go to use the bathroom and it was closed because she puked all over it and I'm told S$%^ her pants. WTH!
The Purdue worker in the seat next to me said that it's all over Barrow and supplies travel up the Dalton Hwy daily.
It was a sad moment for me and America.

Did the Prudhoe worker mention how it was transported from Dalton Highway to Utqiagvik?
That’s one helluva lengthy transport system, driving the Dalton without reaching final destination.

I realize this is an older thread but the meth problem is definitely not confined to America and our 50 states but rather a worldwide crisis. Indeed it is "everywhere", sadly enough it has become an epidemic of global proportions. For what it's worth, my thoughts and prayers are with all of the users and their families.

According to the World Health Organization, meth abuse worldwide is worse than that of cocaine and heroin combined.

1/2 the youth in these villages end up in jail - their lives ruined - all because there is no set program or activities for them to participate in.

NO place to go - nothing to do - no one to teach them.

King Solomon - The book of proverbs.

I see the fulfillment of that verse daily in these villages - children left to themselves. They all share the same fate & destination - incarcerated in jail!

Why aren't these kids out fishing from dawn to sunset? By the time they got back they'd be so exhausted they'd collapse.

Who says you can't fish while high on meth?

I work in healthcare. Meth ages people so fast. I see people in their 30s that use meth and look 50+. Deep wrinkles, no teeth, scabs, paranoia, etc.

I wouldn't recommend it

We've had at least 5 drownings on Lake Erie this year because of people fishing or boating on the lake while high on meth.

Seems like lakes and meth aren't such a good combo after all. Who woulda guessed?
