I was there for 2 weeks a couple of years ago and had a wonderful time. It just wasn't enough time to see everything. I was able to see Fairbanks, drive to Valdez, stopping at Worthington Glacier, taking a 4 hr Glacier tour out of Valdez, driving over to Deanali, going to the State Park and then back to Fairbanks, Angel Rock and Chena Hot Springs and then up to the Arctic Circle and the Yukon River.
Have fun!
Yes, at this point I consider not going to Homer- I bet its beautiful, but Im not really interested in cafes or restaurants, and Seward, Valdez can not be that different....I hope that Im right about it? Fishing I plan to do from Valdez- even though Homer is said to be the best place, but- fish must be everywhere there, since its the same water? Hmm...I wont cry to not catch one- I prefer to see more nature-glaciers, hiking the trails, Arctic circle- maybe one day cruise. We will see how it goes. Cant wait!

Thanks for the advice!

What kind of fishing are you wanting to do? There's a big difference between shore-fishing for silvers and taking a halibut charter. About the time you're planning on being up here the silvers (coho) will be just about jumping up on the banks here.

Here's an idea. While I think the Glenn Highway is an absolutely beautiful drive, you could skip it and instead take the ferry from Valdez to Whittier and see plenty of Prince William Sound that way, plus see the Copper River Valley area and the Kenai Peninsula. Of course you can drive to Whittier in six or seven hours if you wanted to, as well.

Also, Seward and Valdez are pretty different but I'm not sure I can explain quite how. If you're after scenery I think Valdez wins hands down. I thought Seward was pretty, but after a year here Valdez still knocks my socks off darn near every day.

Sure I would love to take a halibut charter...but not sure if the time allows. I was thinking to stop in Seward and do a 9 h cruise as far west as possible, so at least see some more nature this way, and then one day kayaking the other way- more towards Valdez. After Seward go to Whitter and take a ferry to Valdez. I think I want to skip Homer cause its 3.5 h of driving one way form Seward- so 7 h total- like one day of just driving and at least I would need one extra to do the fishing. Besides Homer is Seward, Whittier, or Valdez second best for fishing?
