My plans...they are a-changing! I swear organizing my family's life is like rearranging furniture. You change it and change it and change it, until finally you find the perfect arrangement.

My husband and I had a long talk about how expensive it would be for me to live in Anchorage and be flying to Seattle regularly with our oldest. We also reviewed what her surgeon said at her last appointment. We also discussed how everyone is not happy about the current arrangement. So...I am going to Atqasuk, instead of Anchorage! I am working with my daughter's doctor and going to schedule her surgery for mid-March. That way we will only be apart for 2 months before they come back to MN at the end of the school year. That will give her enough time to rehab and we can all go back together for next school year.

I wanted to leave for the cabin tomorrow to close it up before heading north, but the letter of consent from my husband has not arrived yet. I really don't want to try to cross borders without it. I also need my new check card to arrive. I stupidly rearranged my bank accounts this week and am stuck with an instant debit card. I am not convinced I will be able to use it everywhere. So hopefully I will be on my way by the middle of next week!

Be sure to let your bank know that you will be traveling through Canada to get to Alaska, less chance of having issues with your check/debit card. Make sure to also have the insurance company for your vehicle print you a covered in Canada card that is current. This seems like the best plan for you and your family!

I just hope the bank gets it right this time. Last time it wasn't until the 4th time my card was flagged for fraud that the person told me that no one had ever entered the travel plan. Maybe I will call them 4 times before I leave, instead of just once to drive the point home.

Luckily the card my insurance sent me for the last trip is still valid. It expires a couple of days after I get to AK.

I am sitting here at the cabin in Nashwauk and it is crazy beautiful. Low 70's for the high and high 40's for the low. I think I might miss this just a little bit.

Once in Canada, go to a bank ATM and withdraw a few hundred Canadian dollars (rate of exchange is done by the debit card issurer) so you have local currency in the event some doesn't take a debit card. Spend the cash before you hit Alaska.

Have a good trip and take a good digital camera!
