I'm back on the delta.. looking for suggestions on a new snowmachine.

I had a 2011 Ski-Doo GTX LE 600 a couple years ago that I really liked, but this time I'd really like something lighter, smaller, simpler, and cheaper (that still seats 2).

Ideas?

If you liked the 600, get the 550 fan Grand Touring.

If you want something cheap (as in new cheap) and simple, get a Yamama Bravo long track.

Not a lot of frills, but a good simple machine kinda like the SkiDoo Élan and Tundra use to be.

If you want a touring then any of the major manufacture make good machines! Pick one where there is a dealer you can get parts or warranty work done in your area.

Living in St. Marys. Been busy but really liking it here. I admit I still miss the Kusko, at least I'm closer and can visit sometimes.

Bravo.. heh, looking for something a little more fun than that! I think I might go with Polaris' touring sport.. the 550.

We own 2 Polaris long track touring machines. I don't think I'd ever ride anything else. I prefer the fan cooled myself.

Those are good machines, I had one for a number of years and it ran flawlessly, sold it to a friend and he got more years out of it and it still runs like new!

Good two up machine as well. Pretty good fuel mileage as well for a two stroke!

You know I bought an Arctic Cat BearCat wide track with a four stoke engine. Runs great, has lots of power and really quiet.

Having said that, I do miss the fan cooled versions for the simple fact that you have a place to warm your hands. My machine does everything but blow warm air... The cooling system goes down the track tunnel and the melting snow is what cools it, but when your face/face shield is cold, you can get down by the fan and get some warm air blown on your items.

Having said that as well, I have a heated face shield, heated hand/thumb grips so those aren't an issue anymore either... So I guess it's a wash. But if I were to buy a new wide track, I will get the fan cooled version of one if they still make them then!

But then again, the four strokes get almost twice the mileage....

What is the typical range of a snow machine?

That totally depends on the trail. A good fast hardpack, verses pushing a trail open.

But my 2000 model year 550 Polaris could go about 160 miles on a somewhat broken trail before refilling, my widetrack Bearcat with the fourstoke engine could easily double that and more. The tank is bigger on the Arctic Cat, but it will break trails and still get good fuel economy and pull a load!

So if you are going to work it, the bigger machines do much better as long as you keep the maintenance up on all of them!
