Ice Road Truckers don't drive the road in the fall, though, at least not on the show. Wouldn't be much of an ice road if they did, of course. The Dalton is one of the first trips I plan to take when I get there, and I was planning on doing it this time of year. Thanks so much for this thread, it definitely confirms my desires to drive my own vehicle up that way. Going in the fall, I can get a feel for the road without being in the deep freeze (when parts break). Don't want any problems my first time up the road.

I really like the Chandalar pictures. That area is really intriguing to me, partly because that's where Heimo got his start on the trapline. Thanks again for the photos!

They drive it year round. But when it gets cold enough they spray down a few inches of water to even out the ruts and washboard. Also, more sites off the road open up in the oil fields so they move those supplies mainly in the winter.

Great pictures! I have some on my blog but they are from my old crappy camera.
