After last years bust for a visit - this year it is going to happen. I should be in AK in the beginning of August for a little over a week... We are driving.

NOW - I have some questions. My kids LOVE to Fish and go horseback riding.

Who/Where should we plan on fishing in August???

We don't have anything really etched in stone to do either - Only ideas I have are staying a couple of nights in Chicken and a couple in Denali - That leaves maybe 5 more days/nights to do things and I understand places are f-a-r apart... I would also like to see a glacier. I don't have a desire to go flight seeing either.

I still have some threads marked for the drive to reread and I already have the milepost from last year and the PDF version on the laptops... I may go ahead and buy the new one before I go anyways. Milepost has an iPad app as well. Tomorrow I am getting my loonies just in case my credit cards are not accepted or do not work. US$ to CAD$ is at a pretty decent level, so I might as well jump in and get more loonies per the US$ now before that changes again.

Are you going to Chicken Gold Camp? That place is awesome.

Yes - that is the place we are planning to go to. As soon as I get a really good idea of the exact date I will be there I will be putting down a deposit to hold the room...

Well, it's about darn time you came up for a visit. I could tell you a killer place to go fishing but it's 50 miles from Tok and you'd have to walk about a mile in the woods. You'd probably want a heavy caliber weapon to take with you, but honestly, I have never seen a bear there.....I'm sure others can recommend easier spots to find.

Go to either Seward or Valdez and you'll be able to see glaciers up close without too much effort and catch all the silvers you want, too.

Sounds like a great vacation. On your way to Chicken, at mile 4.5 of the Taylor HWY is a nice little Lake called Four Mile Lake. Here is a link to a publication produced by the Alaska Fish & Game Department info about fishing the Tanana Valley. http://www.adfg.alaska.gov/static/fi...kedLakes11.pdf

There should be some real good Grayling fishing along the Taylor Highway. While they aren't as big as a salmon nothing really says wilderness like fishing for grayling in a small interior stream. Try black gnat or mosquito flies. When they are biting you can't miss. I have dangled flies 4 inches above the water and watched them jump out to grab it.

You are going to be close to caribou season, I think it's August 10. It can get crazy up there during caribou season.

Everyone thanks for the advice!

I'm guessing I shouldn't wear a caribou fur jacket in August?

No to go and rig up some fishing poles to bring along.
