I agree!

PBS has some great train trip through Alaska, salmon fishing along the way and a visit to Denali.

It was always a dream mine to live in Alaska! My hubby's health just could not handle the cold, so we stayed in Texas.

The next best thing to being there, is through reading the great posts.

A Big Thanks to all!

Default I know some may hate this

but this forum is my Northern Exposure. I love the show and I love the fantasy. I know nothing about Alaska other than what I have read and watched and I know it is probably not like that...........But I also know the dream is almost always better than the reality...........AND YOU FOLKS KEEP THE DREAM ALIVE.

Once again I must say thanks and Rance I love to read your posts....... you are what I wish I was.....Kudos and .............Namste

I hear you berries. I love reading all the posts and seeing all the pictures. I will visit one day (and promise not to be a touron) but I know that I'll never be able to live there. Sometimes when you're just having a really bad day you can come onto the sight and see all the pictures and read posts and just feel better.

This is a GREAT thread!

I don't stop and think about how many people are probably lurking and soaking in the atmosphere. Many of you are where I was 20 years ago. . . dreaming of Alaska!

I actually live in a part of Alaska that is very similar to any ol' place. Except for the extreme cold and high cost of living, my town could be "Anywhere, USA." We don't really have anything that is "typical" Alaska, and it's not the picturesque place that others show. So I, too, love looking at all the pics. Each time, I vow that we're going to take the time to once again explore this great state! I really miss the vistas!!

All you "Outsiders" remind me of how very privileged I am to live here. Thank you!

My guess is that there are more lurkers on the Alaska forum than any other state. I doubt that there are as many people dreaming about moving to other states like they do about Alaska. Alaska is so different than any other state. There is a lot more to learn about before the move.

I too am very thankful to the good folks here who have answered all my dumb questions with patience and humor.

Actually, Berries, thank you. Earlier today I was on a float plane--and I am not an easy flier--and for some reason this thread (and other ones like it) crossed my mind. I realized that the way I live and work is something that people in the lower 48 pay big bucks to experience. So instead of sitting there in the plane gripping the seat with my eyes closed, I decided to open them and enjoy it.

And there is nothing quite like having survived another float plane ride over the Tongass. You feel good for quite some time...
