Whats the best and worst of both I'm preparing to move up and want to know whats the area like. I Looking for space away from people but still withing 25 miles of a town with hospital and stores. I currently run a seafood department so that first interest for job but i also love to hunt, fish, kayak hike, build anything and just be in woods doing whatever comes to mind. I know that the seafood jobs are in the kenai or sledova areas i prefer kenai because of the winters the worst the better (i know i'm backwards but i like the elements) but i also know that freedom is in the interior.Went to college for computer networking have roadwork and carpentry experience, Food safe certitified and i have shipping and receiving experience. All input is welcome.

I think the only hospital in the interior is in Fairbanks. Then look where the roads go. You can also look at the Mat-su area. Nice hospital just a few miles from Wasilla and Palmer.

Based on what you have said I would lean towards the peninsula or as Keyman51 has said somewhere near Palmer/Wasilla. I think there is more available of what you like to do in these areas. Your initial property investment will be higher in these areas. however the day to day cost of living in the interior is much higher. As to liking harsh weather, the interior get brutally cold in the winter. You will see minus 60 or even minus 70. To make things worse the lack of sunlight in the winter time in the interior is also an issue. Now having said that, people in Fairbanks seem to be much happier than people in Anchorage. Go figure.
