Helo all,

Iwas just wondering, what is your personal favorite winter activity.

I understand that there are many things to do, but I only have generalizations.
You know- hunting (hunt what?), fishing (fish what?), snowmachining (where to go?) etc.

Please let me know what you like to do.

Thanks!

Warpt,

Hey, thanks for the links, but I was more wondering what locals do.
I mean, I really don't want to hire folks to assist me with my activities.
What do YOU do?
Where do YOU go?
Ya know?

Thanks!

It depends on how the weather is at the time. Most of the time like today, its blowing snow and visibility is down which makes it hard to see where you are driving if you're on a snowmachine(snowmobile--we don't use this term). What you can't see will hurt you. A lot of people have cross country skis and do that a lot. There are also a bunch of dog mushers here, if you ask nicely, they'll give you a ride. Whenever the river gets thick enough, there is a lot of inter travel between the villages here, the Kuskokwim becomes a highway and you have your cars and pick up trucks and suv's out and about. No matter what you do outside, make sure you leave a plan behind with someone telling them where you are going and when you plan on being back home. This will give the Search and Rescue valuable information should you become lost in this vast wilderness.

Warpt,

Now that's the kind of info I am looking for.
Thanks again!

Penartist,

Umm, I am coming up with only me and my German Shepherd, ummmm, so if I read you correctly, I will not be able to partake in your kind of indoor activities.
(My wife will be home in New Orleans for at least a year so anything related to that kind of fun will be, well, just me...)

Get it right, I make eyes out of them. A snowman with gray eyes rocks, the kids let them stand up a little longer.

I love cross country skiing out at Skilak Lake, or snowmachining or hiking/mountain climbing out there. Oh and ice fishing for rainbows, lakers and dollies out there also.
