Please let me know how the roads are.

As far as Milepost, we went with a 1 yr old book a couple of years ago and for the most part it was accurate. Although some businesses were gone and there were new ones in their place.

I like the app - I downloaded it and you only have to pay for the routes you take. Assuming you have GPS coverage (and for the most part I did on my iPad for the navigation app I was using at the time), you will know where you are in relation to what the milepost book is telling you about the area. My Navigation map didn't have the mileposts marked on it. I can't wait to try it out on my next drive up.

Yeah, within 2 or 3 years you should be fine. Even the current one is out of date by 6-12 months anyway...

Just do some online research into road construction, and if you will be needing to use a gas station or hotel outside the main towns, give them a call before you leave.

Rooseville? That was the way I went UP a couple of years ago.

The crossing in Glacier NP was closed then. So I had to go west a little more.

Our milepost was 3 years old and worked just fine, it has to be said that unless you are the co-pilot its not very user friendly while on the move. We looked it over in the evening and made notes on post-its for the next days travel.

Also phone apps are fine except there are huge swathes of the AlCan that have no signal.

VERY VERY true. But if you download the routes before you leave, your GPS will still work. It only needs a view of the GPS sats without a mountain in the way.

And there was one year that they have the magazine in a PDF download. Makes juggling the big book a little easier when you have it all on a tablet.

I've used the app with no cell signal. The info is pre-downloaded and works of the GPS, which gets coverage even when you do not have a cell signal.

If a place that you plan on going is really isolated you could look up their status online. The Milepost has a website too. For example, if you were traveling on the Richardson Highway and planned to buy gas at the Paxson Lodge south of Delta Junction, you would probably be unable to stop there because they closed (hasn't reopened as far as I know). That lodge is isolated enough that you might have a problem.

One of the reasons there are warnings in the forum to always top off at every stop and never let the tank get below 1/2.
