I have a copy of the 2014 Milepost and I'm looking at the ferry schedule but I'm finding it confusing. First off is it cheaper to take the ferry than to drive? Where would my destination be so as to get off and drive to Anchorage?

I've lived on the Slope these past four years so this is all new to me.

Last I checked it was like $1500 for 2 of us and a car Bellingham to Haines, or maybe Homer or Whittier? Much cheaper to drive, and it was actually faster for me because I didn't have to wait a day in Juneau for a different route. I remember the ferry schedule being pretty confusing. Sometimes they have winter specials that include passenger fare with a shipped vehicle, but usually you have to pay your way seperate. And extra for a room if you don't want to sleep on the deck or whatever.

I've never done it, but thats what I recall.

2319 miles from Seattle to Anchorage - here I come!

Actually I'm in Bellingham but you get the idea.

Last April I paid about $2200 Whittier to Bellingham. That included my Jeep and stateroom. I also spent about $600 on my 4 day layover in Juneau waiting for the South bound ferry. However I had several hand guns and several rifles and did not want to go thru the hassle of shipping them.

You've have saved hundreds by shipping them as airfreight on Alaska Airlines. It's easy. So easy a caveman can do it.

I considered that but a couple of the guns have been in the family over 100 years and did not want to take a chance on something happening. Also I needed some down time after getting ready from the move. Riding the ferry gave me the down time I needed.

I love the ferry. But driving is faster, cheaper and more straight forward. The drive is great too.
